Tariqa Tijaniya

Histoire

Fes, home of the tarîqa Tijaniya Cultural and spiritual capital of the kingdom Cherifian, Fes knows a very active religious tourism, through the many pilgrimages that the mark. The holy city is home to many Sufi brotherhoods, which Tariqa Tijaniya which is undoubtedly the most notorious. It was founded by Abu Al Ahmed Abbes Ben Mohammed Ben Al Mokhtar Ben Ahmed Ben Mohamed Salem Al Tijani, born in 1150 AH corresponding to 1737 (Gregorian AD) in Ain Mahdi. He learned by heart the holy Koran, studied Sharia sciences and traveled extensively in his pursuit of knowledge between Fez, Tlemcen, Tunis, Cairo, Mecca, Medina and Oran.

The Tariqa Tijaniya draws its spiritual foundations in the authentic teachings of the Qur'an, the Sunnah and the sublime values ​​of Islam. It advocates the continual invocation of God's blessing His prophet, reciting the Cora group in the fulfillment of the five prayers, etc. It also recommends discouraging the good in evil and is built on respect for the right to difference by rejecting all forms of violence and extremism. This earned him wide support from the ulema and many others in search of spirituality. His many disciples have taken over after the death of Sheikh Ahmed Tijani to know this Sufi school and settle in different regions of Africa.

There are hundreds, even thousands of followers from diverse backgrounds who visit throughout the year, the medina of Fez where the sanctuary and enthroned the mausoleum built in honor of Sidi Ahmed Tijani. They come to strengthen their faith in God and in search of spirituality and inner peace. Thousands of followers mainly from sub-Saharan Africa, visit the medina for moussem Eid El Mouled (Birth of the Prophet Muhammad) and to visit the grave of Sheikh Ahmed Tijani. The Tijaniya Zaouia mother and the mausoleum of Sidi Ahmed Tijani remains a sacred place for the followers of the brotherhood. The individual or group pilgrimage to the birthplace of Tijaniya Fes dates back ay early ninth century to intensify with modern means of transport.
