Punctuating the urban landscape of the medina and its surrounding walls, kasbahs and borjs are until today an exceptional architectural whole. Erected to protect residents and jewels concealed in the city of Fez through the centuries, they mark their presence the succession of different dynasties. Their defensive role being supported by the technical and artistic focus allocated to their building, they also illustrate the evolution over time of construction techniques and know-how of craftsmen in the development of military architecture. Piercing the ramparts, monumental gates like Bab Bab al Sagma or Mahrouq or other ornate, are sure to spark your interest. At the foot of these sets extends Fassi countryside and hills, green in winter, in summer ocher color.
Door and walls of the Royal Palace
Located at the entrance of Fes Jdid district, the door of the Royal Palace, made aware of the second half of the twentieth century, is a jewel among the work of master craftsmen of the time. Indeed, at work on this project, the best zelligeurs, masons and craftsmen of copper got down to creating this harmonious composition. Borj North - South Borj
Overlooking the city and marking the landscape with their imposing silhouette, Borj Borj North or South is the perfect place to enjoy a panoramic view of the medina and the surrounding area. Distinguish the landscape flagship buildings in the medina, such as the white minaret mosque Quaraouiyine and not far from there, the green pyramidal dome of the mausoleum Moulay Idriss. Occupying the northern Borj, the Museum of Weapons will open its doors. Since 1963, a rich collection, tracing the evolution of weapons from prehistoric to contemporary times exposed. Fifteen thematic rooms succeed to present you swords, spears, daggers, guns, or guns here and elsewhere, and more.
Training centerj
Artisanal discovery along your route, stop for a few moments in this training center, which will give you a glimpse of the rich craft heritage. More than a place of exhibition, this center is a true teaching site and transmission of knowledge. Alongside technical courses and practical workshops, management and accounting courses are offered here. Around their master craftsmen, young students begin a long apprenticeship where finesse of execution and quality are combined here with creative spirit and contemporary design. Throughout the classrooms and workshops, discover the work of textile, leather, basketry or wood. A workshop of traditional musical instruments will also open its doors.
