The Instituto Cervantes is the public institution created by Spain in 1991 for the promotion and teaching of the Spanish language and the dissemination of Spanish and Latin American culture. It is present in 86 cities in 43 countries on five continents.
In addition, two seats are located in Spain, in the central Madrid and Alcalá de Henares, and, within its multimedia platform, an Internet reference portal on the Spanish language and culture: The Cervantes Virtual Centre .
Objectives and functions
- Organize general and special courses in Spanish, as well as other related to the co-official languages ??in Spain.
- Deliver on behalf of the Ministry of Education and Science of Spanish as a Foreign Language Diplomas (DELE) and organize the corresponding examinations.
- Update teaching methods and teacher training.
- Support the work of Hispanists.
- Participate in outreach programs of the Spanish language.
- Conducting cultural dissemination activities in collaboration with other Spanish and Latin American organizations, as well as entities in countries where the Instituto Cervantes is present.
- Make available to the public libraries with the most advanced technology.
