Built in the late nineteenth century in a Moorish architectural style, by the sovereign Alawite, Moulay El Hassan 1st (1874-1894), the Batha palace was transformed into a museum of arts and traditions of Fès, by royal decree in 1915.
This ethnographic museum has many treasures of Fes and the region, including a collection of ceramics made in the purest tradition of the Fassi art, coins of dynasties, carpets and jewelery from the Middle Atlas and many parts archaeological dating from the ninth century.
The main attraction of this museum lies in the amazing collection of ceramics and pottery, the most beautiful of the country. Specialty of the city for over 1000 years, ceramics of Fez is famous for its blue color. Called "Fez blue", this color is obtained from cobalt.
The museum is located 5 minutes from Bab Boujloud. It is open every day except Tuesdays, from 9:30 to 12 am and from 14h30 to 18h.
